PORSCHE PRESS RELEASE: 4th MARCH 1988 - A new model, the 928S Series 4 with Sport Equipment, has been added to the flagship series of Porsche High Performance road car range. Aimed specifically at the truly enthusiastic driver, the car features a modified engine and exhaust system, a new close-ratio 5-speed gearbox, a limited slip differential plus Sports Suspension.

As a result of the above changes, the Gran Turismo appeal of the 928S Series 4 has been enhanced by developing its sporting character. Top speed is now 173 mph and acceleration time has been reduced to 5.3 seconds (0-62mph).

The more sporting character of the 5.0 litre 32-valve V8 engine has been achieved with the installation of special higher profile camshafts, a modified engine management unit controlling the LH-Jetronic fuel injection and EZK electronic ignition systems plus a modified exhaust system with twin tailpipes.

Available only with a Manual transmission, the new 928S Series 4 with Sport Equipment (or SE), has a new 5-speed close-ratio gearbox with a 20mm shorter gear lever. The final drive ratio is 2.73:1 compared to 2.64:1 on the standard 5-speed transmission and a limited slip differential is included as standard equipment.

The sports suspension comprises front springs which are 10% firmer; Sport shock absorbers; 17mm wider rear track; plus special wider lighter disc style forged alloy 8Jx16 road wheels at the front, and 9Jx16 at the rear. These are fitted with 225/50vr16 and 245/45vr16 ultra low profile performance tyres respectively.

Only 42 cars will ever be produced, the new Porsche 928S Series 4 with Sport Equipment will be available in only four colours - Grand Prix White, Guards Red, Black and Silver. Each car will be finished with the same interior trim comprising full black leather and electrically height adjustable Sport seats with special black/red pinstripe cloth inlays and red piping.

An outstanding example of this, rarest of the rare, Porsche 928SE (Sport Equipment)

It has undergone a year of work by one of the foremost specialists on this model to bring it up to the fantastic condition it now displays. It has a current MOT (October 2024) and is therefore the ultimate usable 928SE or collectible asset.

It is number 5 of the 42 produced and one of only three Guards Red 928SE's remaining on the road.

There are only fourteen 928SE's remaining on the road or in collections Worldwide.


The list of works carried out in the last year includes, but not limited to:

Full interior restoration retaining original materials throughout. Removal of dashboard which has been recovered in genuine hide. Removal and renovation of leather roof linings, centre consoles front and rear, and carpets.

The interior is now in perfect condition having no rips, wear, or tear whilst retaining the patina of the thirty seven year age. This has been possible due to the low mileage of 95,860 (averaging 2,600 miles per year) and obvious care previous owners have taken.


The engine has had a full comprehensive service including the all important cambelt, water pump, plugs, filters, sensors.

The engine has also had a full "top end refresh" which means stripped down to remove inlet manifold and fuel system, cam covers and water distribution system. The idle valve (ISV) replaced, throttle position sensor (TPS), MAF calibrated, new hoses and vacuum pipes. The knock sensors and Hall sensor all replaced. Fuel injectors ultrasonically cleaned. Inlet manifold and cam covers stripped back and repainted.

The engine bay has been cleaned throughout and any parts not up to standard have been refurbished or replaced.

The engine starts and runs perfectly with no hesitation or roughness, just as it should.

The engine runs Valvoline VR1 Racing 20W50 oil only. Only E0 or E5 fuel is used with these engines.


The five speed, close ratio gearbox with LSD has been cleaned and filled with 75/90NS fully synthetic oil. Gear changes are smooth and positive. The clutch is light and has no slip or judder.


This is a completely original unmolested car with matching numbers and an excellent service history.

There is no rust or corrosion anywhere on this car and it has also been thoroughly under-sealed using Lanoguard


The electrical system has been completely cleaned and checked and a new fuel pump with filter has been fitted too.


The car needs nothing doing to it now and is ready to be driven.
